Society of Financial Services Professionals honors Catholic Charities with 2009 National Capital Bus
Following an intensive five month study of management structure and policy, Catholic Charities received the award on Thursday, Nov. 12 at the 9th Annual Gala Awards Dinner, hosted by the Society of Financial Service Providers.
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington was honored with the 2009 National Capital Business Ethics Award for the Not-for-Profit Category on Thursday, Nov. 12. The award was established as part of the American Business Ethics Awards in 1994 to honor companies that demonstrate a firm commitment to ethical business practices in everyday operations, management philosophies and response to crises or challenges. The award is now held under the auspices of the Society’s Foundation for Financial Services Providers.
Once nominated, each nonprofit undergoes a rigorous review of policies, individual interviews with staff and management and several interviews with executives. Judging criteria includes:
- An illustration of the company’s commitment to ethics through direct communication from the CEO and other senior officers,
- An established code of ethics and written philosophy of a company’s values,
- Evidence of how ethics are living a part of the company’s everyday operations,
- Clear evidence that employees understand the code of ethics,
- Employee and/or customer data which supports the fact that the organization is ethical,
- A consistently high-quality of products, services, business and production practices,
- Demonstration of a corporate commitment to maintaining a work environment that is safe and free from harassing or discriminatory behavior in its hiring, promotion and daily practices.
Previous nonprofits that have received the award include Goodwill Industries, National and So Others Might Eat (SOME).
