Angel's Watch Shelter receives Governor's Award for Victim Assistance
The award was given to Angel's Watch and the Southern Maryland Women's League, whose partnership has enhanced the services at the shelter dedicated to serving women and children fleeing abuse.
Two southern Maryland organizations partnering to serve women and children who are fleeing domestic violence received the Governor's Award for Victim Assistance in recognition of the ongoing work they perform. Catholic Charities' Angel's Watch Regional Shelter and the Southern Maryland Women's League jointly received the award for a partnership that has served more than 35 women and children since 2008. These women and children were fleeing an abusive household and needed a safe place to recover.
It was the Southern Maryland Women's League who raised the funding to install a visual security monitoring system, as well as provide key funding for a specialized Domestic Case Worker staff position at the shelter. For over 20 years, Angel's Watch has been a safe haven during emergency throughout Southern Maryland, whose focused case management services help mothers develop the tools to live independent and beyond the violence they once endured. The award was presented on April 30.
