Refugee Services Center

The center offers services to individuals and families as they seek to make a new start in the United States. The program helps these families to learn cultural norms about their new community in a safe environment and provides support in finding a job. The Refugee Service Center is a welcoming place to all seeking a new home in our country.

A culturally competent staff also offers refugees referrals for housing and education about navigating the legal system in the United States.

Who We Help

We serve refugees and asylums who live in Washington and survivors of human trafficking who reside in the D.C. metropolitan area.

• Refugees
• Asylees
• Parolees from Cuba and Haiti
• Social immigrant visa holders
• Foreign-born victims of human trafficking

Case Management

Clients meet privately with a qualified case manager who will provide them with:

• A service plan
• Counseling and guidance
• Referrals to free English-language classes
• Education and professional certification referrals
• Referrals to free or low-cost immigration lawyers
• Information about low-income housing, emergency shelter and transitional homes

Employment Services

Refugee Center professionals and volunteers help clients find jobs by providing:

• Employment orientation and job-readiness training (first two Tuesdays of every Month: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.)
• Interview coaching and practice
• Resume, cover letter and application assistance
• Connections with potential employers and access to on-site interviews
• Referrals for free and low-cost job training and professional certification

What To Bring

Clients are welcome as walk-ins or by appointment. On the first visit, refugees and asylees should bring:

• Proof of D.C. residency
• Asylum approval letter or immigration documents
• I-94 card
• Refugee document
• Passport (for special immigrant visa holders)
