Statement Congratulating President-Elect Biden and Offering Expertise on Social Justice Issues

by Kate Kennedy | December 14, 2020

WASHINGTON, Dec. 14, 2020 — With the results of the 2020 election certified and electors across the country meeting today, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington releases this statement:

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington extends its congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and offers its best wishes to him and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in anticipation of their upcoming inauguration.

As the Biden administration and the 117th Congress begin their work in January, we offer to share our expertise gained in serving those most in need, and we invite the president-elect and vice president-elect to experience hope firsthand by visiting Catholic Charities DC, just blocks from the White House and Capitol.

For more than 90 years, Catholic Charities DC has served our most vulnerable neighbors — the poor, the homeless, the refugee and immigrant, and the disadvantaged — in the nation’s capital and surrounding Maryland counties. At no time in our history has our service been more needed or important. Hunger, homelessness, joblessness and mental health issues all have been heightened by the pandemic and economic crisis. In response to growing food insecurity, Catholic Charities DC has given out 1.2 million meals since the start of the pandemic.

Each day, we hear cries for help. Every day, we see what it takes to help the vulnerable strengthen their lives and build their futures. We look forward to working with public policy makers on solutions that support and empower the many families in need.

May God bless you as you take the reins of leadership.
